Bushturkey Studio may seem a strange name, but we live and work in the rainforest and it is constantly evolving and inspiring us to do the same.
Telling stories with photography is our thing. Life exists in relationship; with our self, with people, with nature and the landscape around us... witnessing this life, being a part of it, documenting and recording, ... this is a reason why photography is something we choose to do and we feel very lucky to do something we love.
Our skill is in seeing, in helping relax, in letting things unfold, in helping give space and breath, in letting you be who you are. Something real. Something unprescribed. Experience tells us that everything has its own story and every story is worth telling.
Established in 2002, we have now photographed over 300 wedding stories and after the day has finished and quietened down and packed away, it is the life in the day that is remembered, whatever the weather, whatever the location, whatever the budget... The life in the day and its details and landscapes and portraits and smells and feel... this is what we photograph.
In the last few years we have been fortunate enough to find and nurture some new photographers to add to our studio. Agi and Elize are first and foremost amazing people with their own creative eye who have helped create a Bushturkey family within the studio. There is now more chance that we are available for your date! Ali (Mitton), our post production finisher, is a talented fashion photographer in her own right and helps create our bushturkey feel. My beautiful partner Kirsten adds her sense and sensibility and is a major part of why our studio has lasted and is successful and is also our main album designer. Lastly there is Ralph, our hairy bearded dog who will be the first to greet you when you visit. And will nudge you for attention all the while.
Awards
We have been a part of the Australian Institute of Professional Photography (AIPP) since 2005 and have since entered into the national print awards (Australian Professional Photography Awards - APPA`s) every year. I achieved "Master of Photography" status in 2009 and "QLD Landscape Photographer of the Year 2011". It has been a great way to learn from some of the most talented photographers in Australia - by putting yourself out there to be judged. And wether you get awarded or not, its always a worthwhile experience. And for the last few years I have been invited to 'judge' too, which in itself has been 'uncomfortably' rewarding (but thats a discussion too big for here).
